About Jodie

My name is Jodie, and I’ve been playing the piano since I was very young. Like many students, I didn’t love it at first, lessons felt like a chore, and practicing wasn’t always something I looked forward to. It wasn’t until later on that I truly discovered how much I loved the piano and how meaningful it could be. Looking back, I often wish I had realized that joy sooner.

That experience shapes the way I teach today. My goal is to help students learn solid musical skills while also enjoying the process of learning. I want my students to feel encouraged, curious, and confident, and to discover the joy of playing piano in a way that feels natural and rewarding, not forced.

I am deeply passionate about music and would love to pass that passion on to my students, helping them enjoy piano as much as I do. In my lessons, I encourage learning by ear as well as through sight-reading, so students develop a well-rounded musical understanding.

Together, we will choose pieces that you genuinely enjoy playing, while also working toward the personal goals you have for your musical journey. Lessons can include scales, music theory, and repertoire (based on your interests), all designed to build a strong foundation and a deeper understanding of the piano, including how music works and how to begin improvising with confidence!

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I have played piano since I was eight years old, but I have to admit, it was not until much later that I truly began to enjoy it. I think it started around 16 that I really began to love it, I fell in love with the peacefulness and beauty of the piano. I began to experiment with different styles, like jazz and blues, I began to learn chords and once I understood how much more there was to piano then I was in love.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

I think the styles of music which I can never get bored with would definitely be jazz, soft jazz, old jazz, classical jazz. I love it all and could listen to it non-stop without getting bored or tired of it.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

I think the most difficult, but riveting course for my students would be learning how to improvise. Not just playing what is written or given by others but creating a whole new piece of music that cannot be written but just goes with the flow.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I'm not sure what would be the hardest, but I would think violin would be really hard to play, and to play well. There are a lot of aspects to consider, there are no finger placements visible so you have to listen carefully to know if you are playing right. You have to make sure your bow is tightened perfectly and must be holding it with a perfectly loose wrist. There are a lot of reasons why the violin is pretty difficult to master.
  • What are your keys to success?

My two main keys to success would be 1. stay committed, even when it's hard and you think you will never be able to get it, keep pushing yourself, you will be amazed at what you can do if you just commit yourself, dont give up! and 2. learn to love it, there are times when we don't love the practising and the music doesn't sound as nice as we would hope, look for the nice things, look at what you can do, and listen to some beautiful music to remind yourself why you wanted to do this in the first place.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Three musicians I dream of meeting would be Debussy, I love his pieces of music, they are among my favourites to play on the piano, so dreamy and beautiful. He is an incredible composer. Another would be Jacob Collier, his knowledge of music theory is incredible, but also how he improvises and turns old tunes into something completely new, he also has such a passion for music that I find really inspiring. The last would probably be Louis Armstrong, I have not much to say, he is just overall amazing!
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

When I was still in music school, I had a habit of playing everything much faster than it was supposed to be, It would be a game for me to learn my pieces as fast as I could possibly play them. My piano teacher was extremely exasperated with me. Every week I would come to the class and play the song as fast as I could in hope that I would impress my teacher, but I really did the opposite. She had to have a lot of patience with me :)
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

Maybe my little touches are that I am truly in love with music and with playing the piano and I try to convey and implant this love for music in my students as well. Maybe It is also because I am very personal and love to discuss what you are struggling with, what we can do to fix it and how you can get the most out of every lesson!
