About Alec
With 4 years of jazz piano teaching experience and a DMA in Piano Performance, I’ve developed a teaching approach that supports both technical mastery and creative exploration. My work often involves preparing students for competitive music programs such as Berklee and Juilliard. I believe that jazz musicians must be fluent in harmony, rhythm, and expressive technique, so my lessons focus on strengthening these core areas. Students work on voicing, improvisation, ear training, transcription, harmonic mapping, and repertoire development. I also incorporate classical-based technical exercises to support precision and tone quality. Over the years, I’ve helped students refine their improvisational style and prepare compelling audition pieces. I shape each lesson according to the student’s goals, learning pace, and musical personality. I want my studio to be a place where students feel encouraged to explore, question, and grow. Ultimately, my mission is to help aspiring jazz musicians develop the artistic maturity, technical skill, and personal confidence they need to succeed in advanced study or performance.

My teaching approach helps students become confident and expressive piano performers. I teach simple methods to manage performance anxiety so students feel calm when they play. Stage presence is developed through posture, breathing, and steady movement. Memorization is practiced through patterns, repetition, and slow work. I support exam takers with clear goals and targeted practice. Church musicians learn how to prepare service music with smooth transitions and expressive touch. Recital and audition preparation includes mock performances and detailed feedback. I help students understand how to communicate emotion with the piano. My lessons focus on building habits that reduce fear. Each student progresses at a steady pace. I encourage a positive mindset. Students learn to trust their technique. They gain confidence and perform with heart. I guide them to shine on stage.
