About Michael

I teach Brazilian styles like Bossa Nova, Samba, Choro as well as Jazz, Classical, Rock, Country and other styles.

I am a trained teacher of music but many other topics too and cater to my students' needs and interests. My goal is to create independent musicians who can develop and grow on their own after our time together.

I have been playing guitar for 16 years, grew up playing the piano and drums and have played in numerous groups in Chicago and Los Angeles.

I earned an AA in Composition at Los Angeles City College was named best guitarist in the program 3 years, and also made Dean's list each year enrolled.

I enjoy connecting with my students and providing the link they need to be opened up to new methods of guitar playing; whether that be starting with the basics or getting into the particularities of composition. I feel called to share the knowledge I have accumulated over many years of music study and to use the mystery of music to live our lives in a deeper, more meaningful way

I first began teaching sports as an athlete in my youth. I also have several years of ESL (English as a Second Language) teaching where I taught in Barcelona, Chicago and Los Angeles. I have been giving music lessons for a few years and more since I graduated from my music program at LACC in 2019.

I have been playing music my whole life: I learned piano at a young age and played for six years until playing in marching and concert band throughout jr high and high school. When I was sixteen, I picked up the guitar and have been playing ever since. I played in several bands and groups in Chicago and Los Angeles and earned an AA degree in Composition at Los Angeles City College where I received awards for Best Guitarist of the program for 3 years as well as making the Dean's list each year of enrollment

About the lesson

We would have a consultation to talk about the student's interests, experience, and goals. What I enjoy doing is tailoring classes according to where the student is trying to grow and pushing them to learn more in the areas they have interest. That means I'll suggest plenty of songs to work on but also back up the songs with analysis of a little theory, add technique and exercises to the repertoire, and also introduce the student to some new kinds of styles too.

I have worked with all kinds from beginner to advanced and children to older adults

I would look for someone they have a good relationship with or feel they can communicate well with. It's good to have a very skilled teacher of course but the most important aspect is faclilitate a smooth and constructive relationship with your teacher. Look for one that is approachable, works hard, and is also in tune with your interests as well.
