My teaching approach is built around your goals and your pace. I use a balanced method that integrates the physicality of drumming with a solid foundation in musicality and theory. Lessons are highly practical: we spend most of the time playing, applying concepts immediately to the drum set or percussion instruments. Techniques focus on developing fluid, efficient motion for speed, power, and injury prevention, emphasizing the classic principles of stick control and rudiments.
A typical lesson begins with a brief technical warm-up and a review of last week's assignment. We then spend the bulk of the time introducing a new rhythmic concept or style (e.g., a funk groove or a jazz independence exercise). We conclude by selecting a piece of music or an exercise that incorporates the new material and setting a clear, realistic practice goal for the week.
What sets me apart is my ability to connect the academic side of music with its real-world application, offering a comprehensive path from basic skills to performance mastery. I teach students across the entire spectrum, from absolute beginners with no prior experience to advanced high school and college-level musicians preparing for auditions and professional work. Whether you're interested in rock, jazz, orchestral work, or simply want to understand the beat of the music, you'll learn to play with confidence. We'll even explore musical themes inspired by the grandeur and rhythmic complexity.
