About Archana

With 12 years of experience in Carnatic vocals, 10 years of piano study, and 2 years of handpan practice, I bring a well-rounded, deeply informed approach to music teaching. I have studied voice opera at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) and completed 8 grades from Trinity College London in piano. My vocal skills were further honed through a Vocal Performance Summer Program at Berklee College of Music, and I refined my handpan technique at the Handpan School in NYC.

About the lesson

With over 12 years of experience as a music educator and multi-instrumentalist, I offer dedicated lessons in Carnatic vocal music, Handpan(D Kurd Minor), and piano—each taught as a separate, immersive course. My goal is to help students build a strong foundation, grow at their own pace, and connect deeply with music—whether they're learning for cultural roots, creative expression, or personal joy.

My Teaching Method & Techniques
Fundamentals First: I prioritize correct technique, tone production, posture, and understanding—right from the start—tailored to the instrument.

Step-by-Step Progression: Concepts are introduced gradually, with exercises and repertoire that build confidence and skill week by week.

Interactive Learning: Lessons include singing/playing, active listening, and rhythm practice to make sessions engaging and intuitive.

Creativity & Expression: I encourage students to explore their own voice—through improvisation, mindful play, and emotionally connected practice.

Flexible & Personalized: Every student learns differently—I adapt my approach to match their pace, goals, and background.

A Typical Lesson Plan
Each lesson lasts 45–60 minutes and typically includes:

Warm-Up (5–10 min): Finger exercises, vocal drills, breath work, or rhythm tapping

Core Lesson (20–25 min): Technique, composition, or new concept

Application (10–15 min): Song, improvisation, review, or guided practice

Practice Guidance (5 min): What to work on during the week

Every instrument course follows its own path—for example:

Carnatic Vocal: Swara patterns, talas, geethams, Varnams, Kritis, Bhajans, alapanas, Kalpana Swaras, compositions

Handpan: Sound technique, rhythmic patterns, flow exercises, and groove creation

Piano: Sight reading, finger technique, Western Classical Theory, musical phrasing, Western Classical Pieces
