About Declan
I am a passionate guitar teacher with over 11 years of experience guiding students of all levels. Holding a Diploma of Music with a Guitar Specialization, I have helped learners prepare for live performances, recording sessions, auditions, and music school entry. My teaching style is encouraging and focused, balancing discipline with creative freedom.
I emphasize stage presence and performance confidence, helping students feel comfortable and expressive in front of an audience. Technique and theory are important, but I also encourage individuality, allowing each student to develop their unique musical voice. I work closely with learners to refine their tone, timing, and expression, ensuring they achieve musical excellence. In lessons, I combine structured practice with imaginative exploration. Students learn not just to play, but to perform and communicate through music.
I provide support, constructive feedback, and inspiration to help them reach their goals. Whether preparing for a concert, audition, or recording, I make sure students feel confident, prepared, and creative. My aim is to make every lesson rewarding and enjoyable, fostering growth, passion, and a lifelong love for guitar. I believe that with the right guidance, anyone can excel and shine on stage or in the studio.

My teaching approach for guitar focuses on helping students connect deeply with music while building strong technical and creative skills. I believe music is not just about playing notes, but about expressing emotion and finding mindfulness through sound. Each session is designed to create a calm and focused learning environment where students learn to slow down, listen, and feel every note they play.
I emphasize slow practice methods, helping students develop patience, precision, and tone awareness. Breathing with rhythm is another key aspect of my lessons — it helps synchronize mind and body, improving both timing and musical flow. I guide learners through various guitar styles including classical, jazz, acoustic, electric, and fingerstyle, ensuring they develop versatility and confidence.
I also teach related instruments and concepts like basic music production, song composition, and recording techniques, so students can explore their creative potential. My methodology blends discipline with inspiration — encouraging practice, but also self-expression.
