About Jewell
Maybe you have wondered why your playing feels stiff while your favorite jazz recordings sound so fluid. I bring 6 years of experience to help you navigate the nuances of rhythm and timing while refining your personal style.
My background includes a Bachelor of Music from the Australian Institute of Music where I spent years developing techniques for pop and contemporary performance. Throughout my time working with 381 students, I have focused on the importance of posture and hand position as the foundation for better expression.
We address music theory and ear training to ensure that your playing is grounded in a deep understanding of the notes. I specialize in teaching complex jazz improvisation and sophisticated dynamics that make a piece truly come alive. The first meeting begins with a diagnostic playing assessment to determine your current technical level and your goals. Using this data, I will help you craft an 8.0 out of 10 level learning plan that addresses your unique strengths and areas for growth. My 6 years of experience informs how I balance theory with the practical application of playing pop and contemporary pieces. You will find that my approach is calm and detail-oriented, focusing on the mechanical aspects of your posture and technique alongside your emotional expression.
I hold a Bachelor of Music, which allows me to explain complex concepts in a way that is accessible for any student. We will spend our time on specific exercises that improve your dexterity and overall musicality.
I prefer to keep things grounded, so we avoid abstract fluff and stay focused on your instrument. This ensures that you have a clear path forward that feels manageable and productive. You can expect a supportive environment where we slowly build your confidence at the keyboard.
