About Andy

I have a very broad applied engineering experience and much experience teaching students at degree level. I am now working in industry, but am keen to support the next generation of engineers through tutoring and teaching. I am a qualified Mechanical Engineer with experience in energy systems and thermofluids, high voltage electrical plasmas, materials and chemical engineering. I am currently managing a R&D department in industry. I have worked on research projects across the on- and off-highway automotive industry in topics covering heat transfer, energy systems, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics. I have acted as expert for DEFRA's Air Quality Expert Group, electric vehicle evidence statements and Natural Environment Research Council. I have been external examiner at Oxford Brookes University, as well as advising the Energy Technologies Institute. I have worked as a senior lecturer and programme director on IMechE accredited courses at Loughborough University and University of Chester, with almost 20 years teaching experience. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I have taught classes of 200+, but much prefer tutoring one-to-one.

About the lesson

I have worked as a senior lecturer and programme director on IMechE accredited courses at Loughborough University and University of Chester, with almost 20 years teaching experience. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and have worked on research projects across the on- and off-highway automotive industry in topics covering heat transfer, energy systems, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics. I have taught classes of 200+, but much prefer tutoring one-to-one. My preferred focus is on developing fundamental understanding of the subject matter to allow students to excel not only in their studies but in their future careers. I have designed and delivered many modules across levels 4 to 7 and therefore have a wealth of my own teaching materials I can use to support those you already have. My lessons are a minimum of one hour, but can be longer. They would typically be online covering theory, application and practice questions, with the support of visualisers and practical examples. I am most interested in working over a period of time with students, allowing me to tailored content as I get to better understand your level. My lessons are intended for people studying at degree level or higher, however, I am happy to work with anyone who has a genuine interest in engineering and motivation to learn.
