About Mike
I am published writer and performer, in addition to a teacher with 20 years classroom experience. My students very quickly get over their fears and phobias toward reading and writing; a number of my students go on to earn degrees in Fiction Writing or Poetry or the Theater Arts.

I have an M.Ed. from Loyola University in Chicago and have twenty years of lessons in writing, whether in terms of nuts-and-bolts grammar and structure, or in terms of creative flow.
Lessons would be built around:
- a stated objective (what the student is going to be able to understand or accomplish) at the top
- an example to examine and discuss
- a moment of modeling (I often demonstrate techniques in reading focus and comprehension, or in writing)
- a small practice session
- one-to-one exchanges on student-exhibited strengths/weaknesses

Was my teaching in middle school, and still stands out as a formative role model.
I had Mr. Moran as a teacher for 2 different classes at JFK class of 2004. He was a great teacher and connected with his students. I believe he connected with me because he is unique, original, and compassionate. I am a teacher today (10 years) and consider Mr. Moran to be a model of what teachers should strive to be. His ability to incorporate music, acting, and improv into his teaching made it one of the best high school classes I ever took.
Couldn't ask for a better teacher!

Davenport, IAI believe Mr. Moran is a trustworthy teacher because when I was his student both my freshman and senior years of high school, I saw that he gave every student the ability to succeed and challenged those that wanted to excel. During my time with Mr. Moran, I learned how to better my writing and reading skills with engaging activities aimed to include all students. Mr. Moran proved to be empathetic to his students while sharing his passion in language arts and re-expanding a students mind to love the art of learning rather than just the drive to get a grade.
I can genuinely tell you that Mike taught the most interactive, entertaining, and enthralling classes in my high school. His creative writing class introduced me to some of my all time favorite authors. He has an appreciation for the individual needs of each student, especially if they’re struggling. He has a wealth of knowledge in multiple fields of study, and he is passionate about sharing that information. Being his student was one of the highlights of my years in high school.
Mr. Moran was my high school English teacher. As a student who had never read a book from cover to cover, Mr. Moran was the first teacher who ever made reading genuinely interesting and fun. He challenged me to grow not only academically but also challenged me to grow into a better person. I highly recommend Mike Moran as a teacher and a person.
Back when I was in high school, Mike Moran was my teacher for Creative Writing during my Freshman year. I ended up taking that elective course nearly every semester afterward for my remaining four years at Kennedy High School because it was just that amazing. Some of my fondest memories from that time were set in Mike's weird windowless corner of the school where we discovered intriguing literature and wrote short stories or poetry that captured the ups, downs, and explorations of being a teenager. All these years later, I can still say he was my favorite teacher and I highly recommend him for any assistance you need with your writing skills.
I had Mr. Mike Moran for several courses in high school, and was always glad to be taught by him. I learned more from him than I did any other teacher. He may not always sugar coat things, but he’s honest, and fair with his assignments, assessments, and grading, and was always available to provide his reasoning. He pushed me and others to explore things outside of our comfort zones, and I personally grew greatly from it. And he also had plenty of fun. There were many days of joking and laughing, and sometimes we would be treated to a small performance by him.
He’s truly a teacher who cares about his student, and I’m very happy to have gotten to meet and learn under him.Mike is a very understanding teacher and if you don't get what's going on he has no problem sitting down one to one with you and helping you.
I had Mike as one of my English teachers for 3 of the 4 years back in high school. Mike not only inspired me to write during my free time, he also guided me throughout the beginning of my writing journey. The work he has invested in his former students show that he can continue to inspire others despite where he goes.

I had him my freshman year of high school for a range of classes. He was super supportive and I always felt like I could talk to him. He really cares about his students and understands there are different ways of learning material.
