About Helia

Hi! I’m a third-year Biomedical Science student at York University and an IB Diploma graduate with a passion for making Math and Science easier to understand. Having recently gone through these courses myself, I know the challenges students face and how to overcome them. My goal is to help students build confidence, think critically, and achieve the grades they’re aiming for. Whether you’re preparing for an exam, improving your understanding, or striving for top marks, I’m here to support you every step of the way.

About the lesson

I believe every student has the ability to succeed with the right guidance and approach. That’s why I tailor each lesson to the student’s individual learning style, academic goals, and current level of understanding. Whether you’re preparing for an exam, working to improve your grades, or trying to build a stronger foundation in a subject, I’ll make sure our lessons are focused on what you need most.

My teaching philosophy is simple: understanding always comes before memorization. Rather than rushing through formulas or definitions, I make sure my students fully understand the reasoning behind each concept. Once that foundation is in place, we reinforce it by solving a wide range of practice questions, starting with the basics and gradually progressing to more challenging problems. This helps students not only remember the material but also develop the confidence to apply it independently.

A typical lesson begins with a brief review of previous topics to strengthen long-term understanding before introducing new material through clear explanations and real examples. We then work through practice questions together, identify any areas of difficulty, and focus on strategies for approaching different types of problems. I encourage students to ask as many questions as they need because I believe learning is most effective when it’s interactive and engaging.

For students preparing for quizzes, tests, or final exams, I also offer focused review sessions that emphasize high-yield topics, exam-style questions, and effective test-taking strategies. My goal is to help students walk into their exams feeling prepared, confident, and capable.

I teach Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Trigonometry to middle school, high school, and IB students. As a third-year Biomedical Science student at York University and an IB Diploma graduate, I understand both the academic challenges students face and the study techniques that truly make a difference. My goal is not only to help students achieve excellent grades but also to help them become confident, independent learners who genuinely understand what they’re studying.
