  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

As a native Mandarin speaker, my ability originates from both my cultural background and the assistance of inspirational teachers and family members. Their continuous support has been the driving force behind my desire to learn Mandarin and explore its many cultural intricacies, which include the fascinating field of poetry. Their support has improved my language abilities but has also sparked a strong desire in me to study and appreciate the complex beauty of Mandarin literature.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

In my opinion, Wu Ze Tian (武则天) is a metaphorical embodiment of Chinese culture because of her nuanced personality and lasting impact on Chinese history. Wu Ze Tian (武则天), the only female empress in Chinese history, broke down barriers between sexes and exercised unheard-of authority throughout the Tang Dynasty. Her political acumen and her support of literature and the arts represented the diversity of Chinese culture, which is marked by fortitude, brilliance, and creative achievement. Wu Ze Tian (武则天) personified the rich culture and enduring vitality of the Mandarin world via her legacy.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like

"天将降大任于是人也,必先苦其心志,劳其筋骨,饿其体肤,空乏其身,行指乱其所为,所以动心忍性,增益其所不能" "tiān jiāng jiàng dà rèn yú shì rén yě, bì xiān kǔ qí xīn zhì, láo qí jīn gǔ, è qí tǐ fū, kōng fá qí shēn, xíng zhǐ luàn qí suǒ wéi, suǒ yǐ dòng xīn rěn xìng, zēng yì qí suǒ bù néng." This insightful quotation from Confucius captures the spirit of tenacity and introspection that is fundamental to Mandarin culture. It highlights the belief that people are given enormous opportunities and duties by the skies, but that realizing one's potential requires going through hardships and overcoming barriers. I identify with this ideology because it emphasizes the value of resiliency, willpower, and self-improvement in both personal and professional endeavors. It acts as a compass for me as I work to become fluent in Mandarin, motivating me to keep going when things get difficult and aim for perfection.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

As my native language, Mandarin means more than language skills to me. It is a link between me and my cultural background, a channel to maintain customs and habits, and a way to promote better understanding and communication among people from all over the world. We maintain an important part of our shared identity and promote international cooperation and intercultural exchange by championing the widespread use of Mandarin. Being able to speak Mandarin is not just a gift; It is a symbol of our shared goals, values , and history. It connects people from different origins and serves as a bridge across language barriers in their pursuit of mutual respect, understanding, and knowledge.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

Lack of opportunities to practice Mandarin in real-world settings is one of the major barriers to learning the language, especially for non-native speakers. However, overcoming this obstacle is crucial to learning Mandarin. Although it may be intimidating at first, speaking with native speakers is essential to improving fluency, comprehension, and pronunciation. Learners can speed up the language acquisition process by actively seeking opportunities to converse with Mandarin speakers. This allows them to fully immerse themselves in the language and gain necessary practical experience.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

When I was in secondary school, I had the honor of representing my school in a Mandarin essay competition. Although I didn't win first place, I was very touched by the Chinese teacher's constant support and encouragement throughout the process. They had a lasting impact on me because they believed in my potential and were committed to helping me improve my language skills despite obstacles. This event strengthened my determination to pursue Mandarin proficiency and inspired me to encourage and support the next language learner, just like my teachers did for me.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

My Mandarin communication skills have greatly improved due to my travels to Mandarin-speaking areas. By being immersed in an environment where Mandarin is the primary language, I was able to practice and hone my language skills in a real-world setting. Vibrant market exploration, local conversations, and navigating everyday situations gave me deep insights into the nuances of Mandarin and culture. Through these immersive experiences, I was able to deepen my understanding of the richness and diversity of Mandarin while improving my language skills.
