About Gaia
I loved being a student and loved being in school. I always knew that I would come back in a different capacity because my favorite place is a classroom. My teachers were my favorite people so I know what that a good relationship helps a student to learn and a teacher to help. Basically, this has been my dream job since I was in the first grade. I am a big fan of Harry Potter and Harry Styles. I was raised in Goa, so the beach feels like a second home. When I was 17, I worked as an assistant kayaking instructor with a local adventure sports company. It is my personal interest and investment in Anthropology and History that drove my efforts as a student. I have always been one to read widely beyond the assigned course material. It has helped me to think from multiple lenses and consider wider implications. The rigorous writing culture at Ashoka University also left me with strong writing skills. I would love to help in any way I can and to engage the student in the best possible way and with the best possible method.

My favorite teachers were storytellers and conversationalists. They taught in a way that I could visualize a social concept or historic event. I think taking notes, asking questions and good listening help a student to critically understand their coursework. I was taught by the best of Anthropology and History that the country has to offer, the very same people who write our textbooks and policies. I had a lot to learn from them, which I would like to share with anyone else who might be interested. As a teacher, I am engaged and try to be funny, because humor builds dynamic relationships, which I believe is an important foundation of trust and respect. I am very patient, which I have learned as an older sibling. I love the subject I teach, so I am driven to help the student in the best way possible. I get along with people of all ages, so I would be happy to adapt to the needs of any student level, be it primary, secondary or college.

Gaia has recently started working as a History teacher. I have had the pleasure of learning from him informally. His ability to organise historical data methodically is apparent in the way he articulates his thoughts as he explains a concept. He can smoothly switch between an intellectually-charged discourse on the mobility and migration in the South Asian Neolithic to explaining the World Wars plainly to a child.
