I learnt to construct proofs of theorems in books step by step under
his able guidance and tasted research already during my Bachelor's
degree. That initiated me to take up further studies in mathematics
and I joined the prestigious School of Mathematics at the Tata
Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR)-Bombay for my Ph.D. and now,
after about thirty years, I am a faculty member in the Indian
Statistical Institute, a premier research institute at Bangalore in
South India and I never forget my education under Professor Bhatt, who
