About Ryan

I'm a Cambridge University Mathematics graduate with a passion for helping students understand and enjoy mathematics. Over the past 10 years, I have worked with students from a wide range of abilities, from those looking to build confidence to students aiming for the highest grades and competitive university places.

I specialize in advanced mathematics, including WACE Mathematics Methods, Specialist Mathematics, university mathematics, and university admissions preparation such as TMUA and STEP. Having studied mathematics at Cambridge, I have a strong understanding of the problem-solving skills and deeper mathematical thinking needed for success at the highest levels.

Before becoming a full-time tutor, I worked as a mathematical modeler and have always enjoyed applying mathematics to real-world problems. I now focus on tutoring because I enjoy helping students develop the same curiosity and confidence that made me love mathematics.

Outside of tutoring, I create mathematics resources and educational content to help students prepare for challenging exams. I believe that every student can improve in mathematics with the right guidance, and I aim to make lessons both challenging and enjoyable.

My goal is not only to help students achieve better results, but also to help them become more confident, independent problem-solvers

About the lesson

I don't believe in teaching every student the same way. Everyone has different strengths, areas they find difficult, and different goals, so I adapt my lessons to suit each student.

I can help you improve your confidence, achieve a top ATAR, prepare for university math, or get into a competitive course, we'll work on the areas that will have the biggest impact on your progress.

My lessons are relaxed and interactive. I like students to ask questions as we go, rather than waiting until the end, and I encourage them to explain their thinking so I can spot any misconceptions as early as possible. I find this helps build confidence much more quickly than simply watching someone work through solutions.

Most lessons involve a mixture of learning new content, working through examples together, and tackling exam-style questions. If you're preparing for WACE exams, we'll also work on exam technique and the kinds of mistakes that regularly cost students marks and time.

Between lessons, I'll give you useful resources and extra questions for more practice.

Above all, my aim is to help students genuinely understand mathematics, not just memorize methods. Once you understand why something works, the harder questions become much less intimidating.
