About Frederick

I have taught for very many years. Now retired from Finance/Investment profession, I write fiction for children and young adults. Tutoring has always been part of my life – at first for my children and those of some friends. Also, formal tutoring for over 5 years, covering primary, secondary and some university students. I have also had the privilege of success with a determined but disadvantaged young learner. My starting principle is that learning need NOT be terrifying. Even Algebra can be fun! The Student's mindset and experience are always key: I try to support the approach of the school (especially with Primary and Secondary) to avoid confusion for the learner. However, in the effort to lead the student to realise that nothing is impossible, I try to explore confidence-boosting steps! Practical examples are always critical, for example, past papers, of course. Then, too, I like other activities to encourage the student and boost their sense of realism and 'participation'.

My son has profound speech and language difficulties and severe dyslexia. He always felt he had nothing to give in English. Being tutored by Fredrick have him new ways of looking at things and Fredrick inspired him to believe in himself and realise he had valuable ideas. He was able to build upon the base Fredrick gave him to develop his studies further in school. Teaching my son was a new challenge for both Fredrick and my boy but the novel way Fredrick had of putting ideas and getting my son to think worked well.
