Before starting the class, teachers can give students a little task to finish on their own. These can be quick, interesting exercises that prepare their minds for learning math. These could include solving puzzles or practically applying the theorems learned in the previous class. For example, children can be asked to measure their classroom or playground and calculate its area after the teacher has finished teaching how to calculate the area of a rectangle or square.

Children can work on them alone or collaborate with their peers. These tasks can give children quick math warm-ups. Small changes in the teaching approach, such as the subject’s introduction and student engagement, can have a significant impact on students' learning. An educator will be able to ease concerns about the course and encourage them to see the classroom as a collaborative learning environment by providing them with an engaging and welcoming introduction. Math is magical, and by introducing the subject aptly, teachers will create a lifelong appreciation for the subject in their students!

About the lesson

Mathematics has a bad reputation for being boring and complicated. However, it is fundamental for many disciplines such as science and technology, engineering, medical sciences, architecture, etc. Yet it is often perceived as a difficult subject by students. Thus, effectively introducing the math class to young students is the first step in instilling appreciation for the subject. This will keep them focused and engaged in the subject, as well as pique their interest in learning about concepts related to it.

If an educator begins early, it is not difficult to ignite a love for math in students, and it can have a significant impact on both their academic performance and their choice of career. Sometimes, all an educator needs to do is develop a bond with the children. They need to think creatively to uncover non-traditional ways to make math fun and engaging. Rather than jumping directly into lessons, they can apply the following strategies to keep the students motivated and help them enjoy math class:
