About Erica

Hello! I'm Erica, an educator, writer, and lifelong lover of language. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in English from Dartmouth College and my Master of Arts in English from the University of Rochester before teaching English at the college level.

For more than fifteen years, I've also worked professionally as a writer, editor, and communications specialist, helping people communicate with clarity, confidence, and purpose. Whether I'm teaching freshman composition, coaching a student through an SAT passage, or helping someone craft a college admissions essay, I genuinely enjoy helping others discover their own voice.

Students often tell me that I make difficult concepts feel approachable and that I create a supportive, encouraging environment where they feel comfortable asking questions. I believe learning should build confidence, not anxiety, and I celebrate progress just as much as perfection.

Outside of tutoring, I'm an avid reader, a novelist, and someone who believes strong writing opens doors throughout life—from earning better grades to gaining admission to college to succeeding in a career.

Whether you're preparing for the SAT, improving your writing, or working toward your dream college, I'd love to help you reach your goals.

I believe every student has the ability to become a stronger writer and more confident communicator with the right guidance and encouragement. My goal is not simply to help students complete an assignment or prepare for a test, but to equip them with skills they will use throughout college and their careers.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English from Dartmouth College and a Master of Arts in English from the University of Rochester. I have taught undergraduate English courses at the college level and have spent more than fifteen years as a professional writer, editor, and communications specialist. This combination of academic and professional experience allows me to help students develop clear, effective writing while building confidence in their own voice.

Each lesson is personalized to the student's goals and learning style. Whether we are preparing for the SAT Reading and Writing section, strengthening academic writing skills, improving grammar and organization, or crafting compelling college application essays, I begin by identifying the student's strengths and the areas that will have the greatest impact. Together, we create a plan with measurable goals, practice those skills during our sessions, and reinforce them through targeted exercises and constructive feedback.

Rather than simply correcting mistakes, I explain why revisions improve a piece of writing so students become more independent writers over time. I encourage questions, discussion, and critical thinking, creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and developing their ideas.

I work with motivated middle school, high school, and college students seeking support in English, writing, academic composition, SAT Reading and Writing preparation, literature, grammar, editing, and college application essays. Whether a student needs help raising a grade, preparing for college admissions, or becoming a more confident writer, I am committed to helping them achieve their goals.
