About Jennifer

Hello! My name is Jennifer Clifton, and I am absolutely thrilled to be your teacher this year! This marks my 19th year in education, and I can truly say that I love my job just as much today as I did on day one. Holding degrees in both Elementary Education and Special Education, my passion is creating an inclusive, supportive, and engaging classroom where every single child can thrive and discover the joy of learning.On a personal note, I am proudly from Fort Payne, Alabama (Roll Tide!). Outside of the classroom, my life is wonderfully busy. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 25 years, and together we have four amazing children. When I am not teaching or keeping up with my big family, you can usually find me cozying up to watch a scary movie or working on my latest fleece knot blanket project.I am looking forward to a fantastic school year filled with growth, learning, and fun! Master Reading Lesson Plan TemplateThis structured template follows a research-backed framework for explicit reading instruction.1. Phonemic Awareness Warm-Up (5 Minutes)Goal: Train the ear to hear, isolate, and manipulate sounds without text.Activity: Sound Counting. Say a word aloud (e.g., ship). Have the student clap, tap, or count the individual sounds on their fingers (/sh/ /i/ /p/ = 3 sounds).2. Phonics & Word Study (15 Minutes)Goal: Teach the connection between letters (graphemes) and sounds (phonemes).Activity: Explicit Introduction. Introduce one target sound pattern for the day (e.g., the "-ch" digraph).Blending: Write 5 to 10 words using that pattern on a whiteboard (e.g., chin, chop, rich, much).
