About Maddy

I am a grade 11 student, and English is my passion. I love writing, and it’s my favorite part of the subject. English has been my strongest subject for all of high school, and I’ve averaged a grade of around 90 since grade 7.

About the lesson

I offer English tutoring for students grades 1-10, and I individualize each lesson to the student's needs and what they want to focus on, and plan lessons around what they need to improve. My primary focus is on writing, essays, and grammar, as well as helping with test preparation.

My goal with tutoring is to help students gain a better understanding of how to use proper grammar, improve writing skills and technique, and to simplify the concepts of work. When I tutor, I typically try to simplify the concept of the lesson/assignment that is being worked on so that the student is able to more easily understand not only what to do, but how to do it. I change my teaching technique based off of the student, and what works best for them. As a student who sometimes struggles with the standard way of teaching in schools, I understand the importance of teaching students in a way that works for them.

I am also able to help build better study habits, not only for English but other subjects as well. The main study methods that I teach are flash cards, reference/study sheets, and mock quizzes that the student makes themselves, along with the help and guidance of me if they want or need it. I always try and get students to study on paper, as writing down what you need to know can be super helpful for our brains to remember more of the topic.
