About Marcus

Hi! I'm Marcus, a 5th-grade math teacher in New York City and a Teach For America educator. I am currently pursuing my Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Special Education and Childhood Education.

Throughout college, I gained experience working with children in a variety of academic and childcare settings. I also have experience supporting students with special needs and adapting instruction to meet different learning styles and abilities.

My classroom experience has helped me develop a patient, flexible, and individualized approach to teaching. I believe every student deserves to feel confident and supported in their learning.

My goal is to create a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, overcoming challenges, and building the skills they need to succeed academically.

As a 5th-grade math teacher and Teach For America educator, I believe every student can succeed in math with the right support. My lessons focus on building confidence, strengthening foundational skills, and making challenging concepts easier to understand.

I begin by identifying each student's strengths and areas for improvement. From there, I create personalized lessons using step-by-step explanations, visual models, guided practice, and independent problem-solving.

My sessions typically include a quick review, direct instruction, practice problems, and a final check for understanding. I adjust my teaching style and pace to meet each student's needs.

I specialize in elementary math, including multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and word problems. My goal is to help students improve their grades while developing the skills and confidence to succeed independently.
