About James

I am a passionate and dedicated chemistry tutor and teacher who aims to foster a love and strong understanding of an incredible subject. I have taught across multiple schools, including my current position at a leading UK private school, with experience spanning AQA, Edexcel, and OCR at A-Level, GCSE, and IGCSE.

Chemistry is a fascinating subject, and I believe the key to student progress lies in fostering genuine curiosity and enthusiasm. When students understand the "why" behind the science, confidence and results naturally follow.

I assess every student's understanding from the outset and tailor lessons to address individual needs. My approach combines clear explanations, real-world applications, and targeted exam techniques to build both knowledge and confidence.

Lessons are typically one hour and are suitable for GCSE, IGCSE, and A-Level students of all abilities.

I hold a degree from the University of Bristol and a Professional Graduate Diploma in Education from UCL.

About the lesson

Lessons are conducted face-to-face or online, typically lasting an hour. Sessions will start with an assessment of the students' underlying understanding, followed by tailor-made lesson plans to help them achieve their full potential in the subject and to foster a greater understanding of the subject.

We will cover a mixture of core syllabus content, exam preparation and techniques, and preparation for practical chemistry assessments.

I specialise in chemistry A-level, IGCSE and GCSE, but I can provide expert support for physics and biology I/GCSE.

A wonderful science tutor who knows how to engage and motivate a child at every stage of learning. He prepared my child for the ISEB exams, as well as for scholarship-level papers, and this preparation played a strong role in securing places at both Eton and Winchester College. Lessons were always interesting, well explained, and intellectually stimulating. He builds an excellent rapport with his pupils and consistently encourages genuine interest and confidence in the subject.
