- Perfect scores on both AP English exams.

- Minored in English at New York University, Class of 2014.

- Worked as a freelance writer and copy editor since 2006. I've also worked as an English tutor since 2008.

- Published writer, with work in Slate, Vice, Men's Journal, The Week, Mic, We Are MEL, Fort Worth Weekly, Pacific Standard, The AV Club, Lit Hub, Bitch Media, among others.

Everything! Mainly, though, the knowledge that what I'm able to pass on will enable you to achieve your dreams.

Every woman on my mother's side of the family is an educator. My mother was a teacher and is now an assistant principal, and by listening to her experiences all my life, I realized I too share a passion for sharing what I know to those who want to learn. I believe that excellent English skills makes you unstoppable, and I want to help you achieve that.

I've been an English tutor since starting college in 2008 to middle and high school students. I'm also a published freelance writer and editor. My essays have appeared in a dozen international publications, including Vice, Fort Worth Weekly, Slate, Pacific Standard, Men's Journal, The Week, and The AV Club, among others. From Jan. 2019 to May 2019 I worked as an ESL tutor in the Fort Worth, TX school district. In Aug. 2019 I began teaching high school full-time in Fort Worth.

The first thing we'll do is chat informally: getting to know each other is as crucial to a teacher-student relationship as the work itself. I ask that you email me a copy of something you've written recently, along with the names of any books you've read recently, so I can figure out your level. After that, I'll design a lesson plan suited to your present ability, time commitment, and needs.

Ages 14-30, both in-person and remotely

ESL students from Mexico, Nepal, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe.

Hire someone who knows what they're talking about. Hire someone whose compassion and empathy is equal to their skill level. We live in a world where non-native English speakers are looked down upon, an attitude that enrages me. Your own languages are just as important as English. I want to make sure you prioritize both your learning and your own culture.

I adopted my dog Ripley in October 2019. At the end of this week he'll be moving to a new home with my boyfriend and I, who are both extremely fond of him. Yesterday Ripley received a bright yellow chew toy shaped like a chicken; the squeak it makes Ripley growl. It's utterly hilarious to watch.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1. What exactly do you need from me? Help with standardized tests? Essay writing? Multiple choice questions? Literature? Some of the above? Something else? Maybe you just want someone to encourage you and cheer for you as do schoolwork. I can do all the above!

2. How much time are you willing to commit, both to me and the work I assign?

3. Are you willing to be honest with me about your strengths and weaknesses? Help me to know what you need, and I'll make sure you get it.
