About Deanna

I have been a high school English and Reading teacher for 23 years.

I have masters degrees in English, Secondary Education, and Reading.

I am a licensed K-12 Reading Specialist.

I am a certified SAT instructor.

I am a college coach specializing in personal statements, college essays, and letters of recommendation for college admissions.

About the lesson

For the tutoring experience to be both productive and rewarding, there must be measurable progress made at every session--students need to feel themselves "getting it" and "getting it done." Schools days are long, and academic struggles make them feel longer and harder. I am intent on setting a goal for every session so progress can be felt and momentum increases. My first session with a student involves establishing short- and long-term goals based on description of their needs; after one session, we can preset goals for each session based on their assignments while I take over the monitoring of long-term goals so the student can focus on progressive improvements.

I charge the current rate for professional tutors in the suburban Chicago area: $55 per hour. I do not charge for my preparatory time for the session, which includes communicating with the parent &/or student about requests for the session and preparing personalized materials to use during it.
