About Kate

Hi everyone! My name is Kate Zheng, and I'm currently a rising Junior at New York University. This Summer, I'll be offering tutoring lessons for English essay writing and Chinese language.

I discovered my passion for tutoring in my freshman year of high school when I first joined the "School on Wheels" club. The organization partners with homeless shelters to offer tutoring services to less fortunate children. Through this club, I was not only able to gain experience tutoring K-8 children in basic subjects (like Math and English), but I was also able to personally develop along with the children I taught, as both parties learned patience and compassion together. I will always remain grateful for the amazing learning experience that this club brought me, in both academics and in my personal life.

As a heritage Chinese speaker, I have always had the intention of preserving my family's culture and language, which led me to enroll in four years of Chinese classes in high school. I eventually began taking AP Chinese classes and received a 5 on the final AP evaluation.

Upon entering college, I spent my first two years at NYU in the Liberal Studies program sharpening my writing skills while having the privilege to study humanities and global literature. I've also had the amazing opportunity to earn the Dean's List award for both of my academic years at NYU.

It would be an honor to utilize my previous experiences and accomplishments to assist others with academic help in English writing or Chinese language! Please reach out and let me know if I can be of any assistance this Summer!

I have always loved writing. I participated in journalism for all four years of my high school career, eventually becoming the lead Feature editor of my school newspaper in my senior year. Upon entering college, I spent my first two years at NYU in the Liberal Studies program further sharpening my writing skills while having the privilege to study humanities and global literature. I've also had the amazing opportunity to earn the Dean's List award for both of my academic years at NYU.

I have also always loved my culture. I grew up around immigrant parents who both only spoke to me in Chinese, and to this day, I am grateful that I was able to have the privilege to continue learning about and preserving my Chinese heritage through language! I enrolled in Chinese classes throughout all four years of my high school career, and eventually took the Foreign Language AP test in my senior year, earning a 5.

About the lesson

Before working with a new student, it would be great to meet with a parent to discuss more in detail what topics the student specifically requires assistance on, and any preferred learning styles they have. After finalizing a lesson date with the parents, I would outline a basic lesson plan according to the curriculum and the learning style of the student. Before beginning the first lesson, I would also love to become more comfortable with the new student first by chatting about hobbies or recent Summer activities and vacations!
