About Corey

As a mentor I help nurture people's understanding of the stories they read and their plots in all works of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry as storytelling is a timeless form of communication and an artistic expression. I believe it's our unique perspective that breathes life to the stories we experience, hear, and/or read throughout our lives. Analyzing works of fiction and helping to build structure and understanding during the reading and writing process is the bulk effect of what produces a good reader and writer.

As a writer of fiction and poetry, I strive for clarity and a sense of flow within the syntax and grammar of a story. The skills that I've acquired through storytelling has extended into the realm of education so that the passion of reading and writing is sustained through generations to come.

I am a firm believer that the teacher learns from their student just as much as the student learns from their teacher. With that said, I love hearing the unique interpretations of any given story/poem and discussing how they've gotten to their conclusion. I would then share my interpretation and I'd then encourage a comparison of the two perspectives while also maintaining an objective point of view.

About the lesson

    I would first assess their level of interest: if they're here simply to obtain outstanding grades in their courses or have a growing interest—perhaps even a passion—for reading/writing.

   Next we would go over their course syllabus (course assignments) for the semester to know the pace and material that we would be covering.

   If there's anything in particular they would like to focus on such as writing better essays or analysing the texts at hand more critically, we would discuss the material in depth.

   For writing I would utilize and suggest multiple editing and brainstorming techniques for my students, especially ones that help them get past the introduction in order to maintain a strong body that flows with each following paragraph.
