About Deven

Hi! My name is Deven Tran and I am currently a fourth year history major at University of California Santa Cruz. My focus is on the history of the modern world and my extensive studies and research have taught me a lot about all of the regions in the world. Additionally, I have been an AP student before, so if you are looking for help in that level I have experience and am always happy to help. As an aspiring educator (and education minor) I have many tools and skills to help you understand most forms of history content and will always be transparent and concise.

As an education minor at UCSC I have spent a great deal of time engaging myself in how to best approach the discipline of teaching in a way that benefits the student first and foremost. Additionally, I also have a great deal of experience working in various summer camps in a mentor role that has given me experience in working with students. I have also taught guitar, worked as a trainer in my past jobs, and am an oldest sibling, so in almost every faucet of my life I have found a way to gain experience in teaching. In terms of my knowledge of history, I have consistently made the Dean's list during my time at UC and am happy to share any transcripts of my academic history.

About the lesson

In working with a new student, we will assess the student's strengths in the class as well as the areas in which assistance is needed and how we can help. Due to the nature of social studies as a discipline, this could be making flash cards, assisting in writing skills, or just providing a historical narrative to help the student understand certain concepts.

Details

While this does depend on the needed frequency of meeting and the student's school schedule, $30 an hour. Ideally, 2 one hour lessons a week would be great, however if a student needs extra help I am happy to work around that.
