As an Orton-Gillingham trained educator holding a Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and a Master of Education as a Reading Specialist, I am deeply committed to transforming hesitant readers into confident, independent learners. With 28 years of professional teaching experience and specialized Institute for Multi-Sensory Education (IMSE) training in the Orton-Gillingham approach, I bring an elite level of expertise to students using evidence-based practices aligned with the Science of Reading. Throughout my three decades in education, I have seen firsthand that learning to read is not an intuitive process for every child. I specialize in supporting elementary students who struggle to keep up with classroom reading, fall behind in phonics, or face intense frustration with spelling, bilingual language navigation, and auditory processing. My extensive educational background allows me to demystify the English language for young learners, particularly those diagnosed with dyslexia or general learning differences, by crafting individualized, encouraging plans that rebuild academic confidence.
I utilize a truly explicit, multisensory, and systematic approach to literacy built upon my understanding of child development and language acquisition. Rather than relying on guesswork or rote memorization, I engage a student's sight, sound, and touch simultaneously to build strong, lasting neural connections. A typical lesson focuses heavily on phonemic awareness to train the ear, structured decoding to master language rules, and targeted fluency exercises so that your child can transition seamlessly from simply sounding out words to achieving true reading comprehension. Because consistency is critical for muscle memory and reading retention, I work closely with families to establish a routine—ideally two sessions per week—to ensure optimal progress.
