About Melissa

Hello,

I am a former elementary music teacher who is looking to assist families in continuing their child's education at home through the extent of the Covid-19 crisis. I have an extensive background in elementary music and early childhood education. However, I feel comfortable tutoring general subjects K-8, as well. I also have experience with gifted and special education students and arts and science enrichment. Please let me know if you are in need of a responsible and experienced tutor to assist in completing the 2019-2020 school year at home!

I have a Bacholors Degree in Music Education and 5 years experience as an elementary school music teacher in Henrico County Public Schools, followed by four years as a private piano instructor.

Goal number one is assessing the student's comprehension level and learning style while also getting to know their personality and specific needs in the classroom.  From there, I develop a curriculum and assessment strategy for each individual week and the academic unit, overall, tweaking and changing things as necessary.  It is important to know exactly what you want to achieve and how you will achieve it, but also to be flexible in your approach to get there.  Finally, you get the absolute best results with students when working in a positive and fun learning environment!
