About Ryan

I have ten years of experience working with students of middle school and high school age. I am effective at helping students grasp difficult concepts and developing their overall mathematical confidence.

I most enjoy helping students grasp and come to an understanding of particular concepts they have previously struggled with. It's satisfying to see the students have that "aha" moment when they are finally able to solve the problem or figure the concept out.

I went to Purdue University to earn my degree in mathematics education. I started my teaching career post graduation.

I have currently in my ninth year as a mathematics teacher. I have taught Algebra 1 for all nine of those years, and included Geometry, Algebra 2, and Pre-Calculus for the past five years. I regularly tutor individual and/or small groups of students weekly for my school's after-school tutoring program once a week. I have been doing that for the past five years as well.

About the lesson

I typically start with working though what the student understands, what they don't understand, and what their personal goal for understanding is. I then work to fill in any missing gaps, and help the student build the necessary skills for learning the particular topic being worked on.

I have worked with students ranging from low to high ability throughout my entire teaching career.
