About the lesson

My typical process for working with a new student involves several key steps to ensure that I understand their needs and can tailor my tutoring to help them succeed:

1. Initial Assessment: I start by conducting a placement test or assessment to understand the student's current level of understanding and identify any areas of weakness or gaps in their knowledge.

2. Consultation with School: In the first scheduled session, I ask the student to bring their math teacher's name and email address. I then contact the teacher to find out what concepts the student is learning in school. This helps me align my tutoring with the student's classroom learning and ensure they don't fall behind.

3. Goal Setting: I work with the student and their parents to set specific, achievable goals for their tutoring sessions. This helps us stay focused and track progress over time.

4. Tailored Lesson Plans: Based on the assessment and consultation with the school, I create a personalized lesson plan that targets the student's areas of weakness and builds on their strengths.

5. Focused Sessions: During tutoring sessions, I focus on helping the student with their school work to ensure they stay on track with their classroom learning. I also dedicate time to work on basic skills and fill any gaps in their understanding.
