About Elizabeth

My service stands out because I am an experienced classroom teacher who has taught many students with varying capabilities. I have taught all subjects, but I always prefer math, which is usually a subject people run from the most. I appreciate how math teaching has moved away from just algorithms to meeting kids at their level by having them use pictures, visual models, and sometimes hands-on materials before moving onto algorithms. It's important to find methods that meet kids where they currently are before moving onto strategies they aren't ready for just yet.

I obviously enjoy classroom teaching, but I know private tutoring can be a game changer for many students. Often, a lot of students are shy or embarrassed to ask for the help they need in class, so I enjoy getting to work with students one-on-one, so their confusion can be cleared up without them worrying about peer pressure.

I graduated from UNC Charlotte with a B.A. in Elementary Education. I joined the Teach for America program, which places us in high needs schools throughout the country. My placement was in Charlotte. I taught in Charlotte for a three years before making my way back to Raleigh. 



I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I have professional licenses in Elementary Education and Elementary Mathematics. I have six years of teaching experience in 4th and 5th grades.

I would give them a pre assessment (typically an EOG for their grade level) to determine which standards and skills they have mastered and what they need practice with. I would also confer with the parent on what the teacher has suggested and what the parent has concerns with too.



I have taught 4th and 5th grade students in Title I schools with varying academic capabilities. I have taught special education students to academically/intellectually gifted students.



Make sure the teacher has experience with your particular grade level. 



In January, I found out that my 5th grade students from last year placed in the top 25% of our district and the state of North Carolina for their growth on the math EOG.

Ask what kinds of strategies do you use for different skills. Ask if the teacher uses pictures, visual models, or hands-on materials to help. Ask if the teacher uses online resources as well.
