About Rose

While obtaining a Masters in Spanish, I taught English to Spanish speakers in order to earn some money. I loved teaching immediately and continued teaching.

I have a Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults certificate through the International House in Madrid, Spain. As well, I taught English for two years while living in Spain. Since then, I have tutored English as a Second Language students at both independent and public schools.

About the lesson

Beginner level students:

I introduce myself by speaking slowly and using gestures. Then, I ask the student to tell me a few things about himself or herself. If he or she does not understand, I give him or her a few examaples by talking about myself. After that, I give a brief lesson in English to see how this particular student learns. To end the lesson, I ask the student-either in English or a Romance Language (I am fluent in Spanish and understand much Italian, Portugues and some French)-what he or she has as a goal. If the student speaks a language too unfamiliar to me, he or she could tell me his or her goal by using a translator.

Advanceed-beginner through advanced students:

I would introduce myself, which would include a summary of where I am from and what I enjoying doing and teaching. Then, I would ask the student to introduce himself or herself and tell me a few things about what he or she enjoys doing and why he or she is studying English. Afterwards, I would give a brief lesson, which would serve to gage the level of the student. Then, I would ask the student what he or she has as a goal as an English learner.

I have worked with 5 year olds through to retired adults. Some of them were studying English because it was a school requirement. Others studied English because they used it for their jobs. A few studied English "for fun," so to speak.

$20 per 1/2 hour. $30 per hour.

2 to 3 students, semi-private lesson:

$25 per 1/2 hour. $35 per hour.
