About Shea

Hi, I’m currently studying BSc Accounting & Finance at Liverpool John Moores University, a degree which involves a strong amount of mathematics and numerical work. I’ve always enjoyed Maths because I like the way everything builds upon what you have already learnt. Once you understand one method, it opens the door to more complex topics, which makes improving in Maths incredibly rewarding.

My own journey with Maths is a big reason why I want to tutor. Maths was actually one of my weaker subjects until Year 11, and I was moved down to Set 3. However, through consistent hard work, practice and learning how to approach questions properly, I managed to achieve an 8 in GCSE Maths and came very close to achieving a 9.

This experience taught me that your current level doesn’t have to determine where you finish. I genuinely believe that with the right approach and consistent effort, a student can make a huge improvement in their Maths.

I particularly want to help students who are aiming to achieve a Grade 7 or higher. I want my students to leave lessons not only knowing more Maths, but also believing that those higher grades are achievable for them.

I also recently gained experience working with young people at English-speaking camps in Poland, where I helped students develop their English and took part in activities and presentations with them. This gave me valuable experience communicating with different students, encouraging them and helping them build confidence.

If you currently feel like a 7, 8 or 9 is out of reach, I want to show you that it isn’t.

About the lesson

I believe that the best tutoring is personalised to the student, rather than simply following a textbook or going through questions one after another. Everyone learns differently, so I take the time to understand what each student finds difficult and adapt my lessons around them.

Having achieved an A* in GCSE Maths myself, I understand how important it is to not only know the content but also know how to approach exam questions and revise effectively. I will break down challenging topics into simple, manageable steps and make sure we don’t move on until the student feels comfortable with the material.

My lessons will be interactive and encouraging, with a mixture of explanation, worked examples and exam-style questions. I want students to feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions, as these are an important part of learning.

I also have experience working with young people through English-speaking camps in Poland, which has helped me develop my communication skills and confidence when supporting students.

Ultimately, my goal is to help students become more confident, independent and capable in Maths, while making lessons enjoyable and suited to their individual needs.
