About Gilberto

I am a National Board Certified teacher in Spanish (World Languages Other Than English), a lover of languages, and an experience and accomplished classroom and online teacher.
I take you as you are and move together to greater proficiency very quickly and enjoyably.

About the lesson

I teach using what is referred to as the Natural Method--a lot of listening to what we call comprehensible input until the student begins to make natural, logical connections.

I have been doing this for two decades with amazing results.

Students generally should be able participate actively so I like to begin at about 9 years old or older but I can work with some smaller children.

My expertise is with adults of all ages.

I am taking beginner Spanish class with Maestro Porter. In the first class, he evaluated my Spanish level, and made concrete learning plans for me. He focused on improving my Spanish pronunciations. We started with different sounds, and he was able to not only identify my mistakes and improvements very well, but also come up with useful exercises for me to practice. He is knowledgeable, funny and enthusiastic about languages. I am looking forward to learning more from him.

He was very flexible with the teaching, it was very fluid and natural. I can use duolingo all day long, but I feel like making it a conversation was very, very helpful. He explained not only the origin of the words, but the culture behind the language and demonstrated how languages vary. I would love to be able to continue forward with him.
