Hi! I'm Akshya, an incoming engineering freshman at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a professional math tutor with three years of experience. I’ve helped students strengthen their math skills and achieve top ACT scores, drawing from my own success passing multiple AP exams and earning a top ACT score. My Approach as a Tutor:
Teaching Method and Techniques:
I focus on breaking complex concepts into smaller, understandable pieces, using real-world examples that incoming engineering students can relate to. I prioritize active learning — encouraging students to solve problems with me, not just watch me do it. For math and ACT prep, I teach efficient problem-solving strategies, time management, and critical thinking techniques. I also adjust my teaching style depending on each student’s learning pace, whether they need a step-by-step walkthrough or a high-level overview.
Typical Lesson Plan:
Warm-up (5-10 min): Quick review of previously covered material to reinforce learning.
Main Topic (30-40 min): Teach a new concept, breaking it down with examples, visuals, and practice problems.
Application (15-20 min): Solve harder questions together, including real ACT-style or engineering-related problems.
Wrap-up (5 min): Recap key points, assign focused practice problems, and set goals for the next lesson.
