  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I've always enjoyed Mathematics, Computer Science and Science, even as a student. I naturally found myself helping classmates who were struggling with different topics. In 2020, I started teaching online, and what began as a side opportunity soon became my passion. Seeing students gain confidence and achieve results is what keeps me motivated every day.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I mainly teach Mathematics, Computer Science and Science to GCSE, IGCSE, IB, and KS2/KS3 students. My favourite part is helping students build strong basics before moving to more advanced topics because I've seen how much confidence that gives them. Whether it's algebra, programming or any concepts of science, I enjoy turning difficult concepts into simple, practical steps that students can actually enjoy.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, two teachers had a lasting impact on me. My school Maths teacher, Miss Khadija, always taught from the basics and cared just as much about our character and values as our grades, I scored 98% in her subject, but more importantly, I learned discipline and respect. Later, at university, Miss Sumaira, my Computer Science lecturer, had an incredible ability to notice from students' facial expressions whether they truly understood a concept. She taught me that good teaching is not just about explaining, it's about observing, listening, and adapting.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

For me, subject knowledge is important, but it is only one part of being a good tutor.

A good tutor should first be patient. Many students don't struggle because they lack ability, they struggle because they have lost confidence. Building that confidence takes encouragement and consistency.

Secondly, a tutor should be able to adapt their teaching style. Every student has different strengths, weaknesses, and learning preferences. A method that works perfectly for one student may not work for another.

Communication is also essential. I believe in keeping parents informed about progress and helping students understand both their strengths and the areas they need to improve.

Finally, a good tutor genuinely cares about their students' success. I celebrate every improvement, whether it's moving from failing grades to passing or achieving a Grade 9. Every student's progress matters.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One experience that has stayed with me was teaching an IB student with ADHD whose mother was worried he wouldn't be able to stay focused during studies. By keeping the lessons structured, interactive, and calm, he gradually became engaged, enjoyed learning, and was eventually accepted into university. Moments like that remind me that tutoring isn't only about improving grades, it's about changing the way students see themselves.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

One challenge I often face is teaching students who have developed anxiety or lost confidence in studies because of previous learning experiences. Rather than rushing through the syllabus, I focus on rebuilding their confidence first, and once they believe in themselves, learning becomes much easier.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Teaching is my biggest passion because I genuinely care about my students' progress and results. I always aim to help them build strong fundamentals, gain confidence, and achieve the best grades they're capable of. There's no better feeling than seeing a student who once doubted themselves finish the year with a Grade 9, A*, or A and realize that all their hard work has paid off.

Outside teaching, I enjoy learning about technology and programming because Computer Science is constantly evolving. Continuing to learn myself helps me bring fresh ideas and practical examples into my lessons.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

I believe what makes me a Superprof is that I never see students as "weak" or "strong" I simply see different learning styles. I focus on building confidence, strengthening the basics, and creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions. The greatest compliment I receive isn't just improved grades; it's when parents happily tell me their child is now enjoying lessons, has achieved excellent results, or that their school teachers praised their remarkable improvement during parent-teacher meetings. Knowing I've played a part in both their academic success and self-confidence is what makes teaching so rewarding for me.
