About Kevin

What kind of experience do you have? I started tutoring at Edinburgh University as part of my PhD. I then began helping some A-Level students around 2006, which I did part-time as I was working in research at the time. Since 2014, I've been tutoring A-level chemistry full-time. I more or less only do A-level chemistry now covering AQA, Edexcel, OCR A and B. Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate? Yes. Tell me about some of your current students. I have a good mix of students of various abilities and personalities. Some are looking to do medicine and require an A , while others have different goals and are looking to improve their skills and grades. I also get quite a few resit students each year.

About the lesson

Hi! My name is Kevin, I've been a full-time A-level Chemistry tutor since 2014. I have a 1st class honours and PhD in Chemistry and also did a Masters in biochemistry . My aim is to improve your grades, confidence and enjoyment of the subject. I help with understanding firstly but also study and exam skills, which are vital for A-level - understanding alone is not enough. Which subject(s) do you teach? Chemistry: A-Level is most of my work. Some University depending on the requirements. Tell me about your qualifications. PhD Organic Chemistry, Edinburgh University, 1st Class Honours Degree Chemistry, Edinburgh University and Master, Biochemistry, Imperial College - How much do you charge? £50 per hour. Where do you teach? Almost all online these days. I can do face-to-face sessions but it has to be local. When are you available? I am available weekdays and nights plus weekends. It is best to contact for exact days and times etc. as it gets busy quicker each year and I'm usually full up by January. Which qualifications do you prepare your students for? AQA, Edexcel, OCR A and B - Describe your arrangements for online tutoring. I use Zoom. - Do you have a personal message for students? You can improve your grades with a little help and guidance. If you are well prepared then the exam will be no problem. A good tutor can help you do this. Once a week or once a fortnight is enough. If you come to the sessions keen to learn and buy into the methods and above all, work hard, then you will get a lot from it - it's vital that you put in the effort in between sessions and recap on what we did. We will work on your Chemistry to give you a good understanding making it as simple as possible. I will also help you with your study methods and exam technique, which is incredibly important. This starts with what you think about exams and your own self-belief/confidence plus different ideas and methods to ensure that you study/revise efficiently and effectively. The overall aim is to improve your exam results.
