About Karen

My name is Karen. I have two kiddos that I love very much. My son is very good at math; but my daughter struggles. This has taught me how to go about teaching and helping by trying different methods. Math comes naturally to some and not to others. My hope is to be able to allow children to find a method that works for them. Math is a way to teach critical thinking skills; it will help in the future - even if it is not a numerical issue. I will be kind and also stern. Let's try to get this done. :)

About the lesson

At the beginning of the lesson. I would ask what the struggle of the week is. Whether it's multiplication, fractions, or something further along the timeline - that's what we would tackle first. If there is a specific lesson they are working on, we could go from there. We would go over the methods and see which one sticks and then work on examples using numerical formats and also word problems. I would love to help any grade student from K-9th. I will be very diligent and work on teaching the student to understand the math rather than just saying "this is how it is". Math can be fun when it is understood.
