About Hanz

I am an experienced educator with many years of teaching in Germany within international education, including work aligned to the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework. My background includes teaching students from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds, which has strengthened my ability to adapt instruction to different learning styles and needs.

Prior to teaching internationally, I worked for several years in the United States, building a strong foundation in U.S.-based curricula and classroom expectations. I have since returned to the U.S. and continue my teaching journey here, bringing a global perspective to my instruction.

My experience across international and U.S. education systems allows me to combine rigorous academic standards with supportive, student-centered teaching. I focus on helping students build deep conceptual understanding, confidence, and measurable growth.

Teaching method and techniques

My instruction is data-driven and student-centered. I begin by assessing each student’s current understanding in math skills and concepts to identify specific skill gaps and strengths. Lessons are then tailored to target those areas using explicit instruction, guided practice, visual models, and real-world problem solving. I emphasize conceptual understanding first, then reinforce it through practice and application. Progress is continuously tracked so instruction can be adjusted as the student grows.

A typical lesson plan

Each session begins with a short warm-up reviewing prior skills and addressing misconceptions. We then focus on one or two targeted objectives, such as solving linear equations, understanding variables, or applying geometric reasoning. I model the concept, guide the student through practice, and gradually release responsibility as confidence builds. Lessons end with reflection and a brief check for understanding, allowing progress to be measured over time and goals to be updated.

What sets me apart as a tutor

What sets me apart is my use of data analysis to guide instruction and measure growth. Rather than generic tutoring or homework help, I track student progress over time and use that data to make intentional instructional decisions. Families receive clarity on what their child is learning, where growth is happening, and what skills still need support. My approach builds both academic skills and confidence.

Who the lessons are for

Lessons are designed for students in grades K–9 who need support or enrichment. This includes students who are struggling with foundational skills, those preparing for exams or transitions to higher-level math, and students who want to strengthen problem-solving and reasoning skills. Instruction is appropriate for elementary, middle school, and early high school levels, with lessons adapted to the student’s grade, curriculum, and individual learning needs.
