About Idowu
I am an avid academic tutor, researcher and coach with a PhD degree in Interdisciplinary Engineering from a top 200 university (QS Ranking). Over the past decade, I have resolved many difficult challenges in mathematics, science and engineering for myself and many students. And I am confident that a personalized tutoring approach that leads to excellence can be developed for you as well. My teaching philosophy is a student-centered learning method which is based on constructivism and constructive alignment (CA). CA bothers around the interrelationships/alignment between intended learning outcomes (ILOs), teaching and learning activities (TLAs) and assessments (ATs). In CA, the intended learning outcomes with deep cognitive level target verbs should be clarified to the students at the beginning of the class. Thereafter, the engagement of the students in the target verbs during TLAs would be pursued and finally, the students would be assessed on their ability to achieve the target verb in the ILOs through criterion referencing. I have made efforts to implement this mode of teaching during lecture instructions, grading/feedback and positive class atmosphere creation.
Through this method, quality teaching was achieved via conducive classroom climate for learning which provides adequate motivation for students, encouragement of deep learning approach through the use of high quality verb from the structure of observed learning outcome (SOLO) taxonomy, criterion referencing, and formative feedback for hinting the students on their progress. These concepts also enable the activation of action research through transformative reflection and quality enhancement to improve my teaching/learning theories and experience. Consequently, in my course of teaching, tutoring and mentoring, I have been able to realize some outstanding achievements with different elements of CA standing at the core of it. Some of the students I have taught or mentored are currently in or proceeded to graduate from reputable institutions such as Michigan State University, University of South Carolina, University of Leeds, University of Sheffield etc.
