About Maranda

Hi, my name is Maranda Benton, and I am currently pursuing my Master’s in Education with a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. I have experience working with students as a substitute teacher, paraeducator, and behavioral therapist, which has helped me support children with different learning styles, confidence levels, and academic needs.

I specialize in helping elementary and middle school students strengthen their math skills in a patient, encouraging, and step-by-step way. Whether a student needs support with basic number sense, multiplication, division, fractions, word problems, homework help, or overall math confidence, my goal is to make math feel less stressful and more manageable. I believe students learn best when they feel safe asking questions, making mistakes, and practicing until the concept finally clicks.

About the lesson

My teaching approach is supportive, clear, and personalized to each student. I know math can feel overwhelming for many students, so I focus on breaking problems down into smaller steps and helping students understand the “why” behind the process, not just memorizing formulas or answers.

During lessons, I use guided practice, visuals, real-life examples, questioning, and repeated practice to help students build both skill and confidence. I also pay attention to how each student thinks through a problem so I can adjust my explanation in a way that makes sense to them.

A typical lesson begins with a quick check-in to see what the student is currently learning in class and where they may feel confused. Then, I review the main math concept, model a few examples step-by-step, and guide the student through practice problems.

After that, I give the student a chance to try problems more independently while still offering support when needed. At the end of the session, we review what they learned, correct any misunderstandings, and identify what they should continue practicing.

What sets me apart is my background in education and my hands-on experience working with children in real classroom settings. I understand that students do not all learn math the same way, and I am patient enough to explain concepts in multiple ways until the student feels more confident.

Because of my experience as a substitute teacher, paraeducator, and behavioral therapist, I am comfortable supporting students who may need extra structure, encouragement, focus support, or a slower pace. My goal is not just to help students get the right answer, but to help them feel capable in math.

My math lessons are best for elementary and middle school students who need support with foundational math skills, homework help, problem-solving, test preparation, or confidence-building. I can support students with topics such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, place value, basic geometry, measurement, word problems, and study skills.
