  • When did you develop an interest in your subject and in private tutoring?

I have always wanted to be a teacher since Primary school. I enjoyed explaining concepts that my fellow classmates couldn't understand. After high school, I had the opportunity to start private tutoring and I am having the best time of my life. I knew I wanted to teach Maths because it is one of the most challenging subjects one can do.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I am a Maths and English Tutor. In Maths I enjoy Algebra, I believe it is the foundation of the subject. I always encourage my students to master their Algebra because somehow they will have to apply it in other topics, I don't really like Probability I honestly think it's unnecessary. In English I enjoy Creative Writing, this is where you are not limited, you can create absolutely anything you want and make it a real thing. This is where you get to see how creative you can be!
  • Did you have any role models? Perhaps a teacher that inspired you?

I had a maths teacher in Grade 12 and he was the most patient teacher I've ever had. He took his time to explain concepts and he never got tired of us asking him questions about the subject(that's how knowledgeable he was). He is someone that made me realize that doing what you are passionate about makes life a lot easier and enjoyable.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

First, being patient: one of the reasons some learners need tutors it's because at school they are rushed to understand the work and often left behind. Having patience is extremely important and understanding that everyone learns at their own pace. Second, knowing how to build a strong rapport: As a tutor getting to know your students is important(their interests, hobbies, favourite subject, learning style etc) this helps to create a comfortable atmosphere and connection. Finally, being professional and honest: As a tutor, you need to be professional by being organised, arriving on time, being knowledgeable about the subject and also giving honest feedback to students and parents about the progress of the sessions.
  • Could you share an anecdote related to your subject or your student days?

I remember I was in Grade 10 and I was writing my exams. I was planning to study for my Maths exam that I was writing the day after, so I decided to rest a bit before my study session. Guess what? I ended up waking up the next day at 6:30 am. I overslept! That was the worst day of my life. I even cried when I arrived at school because I knew I wasn't fully prepared for my Exam. That day taught me to never take my maths teacher for granted.
  • Did you face any difficulties at school or university?

High school was a bit difficult for me in the beginning. I was afraid to be embarrassed so i wouldn't answer or ask any questions in class and that didn't help me much so I had to overcome my fear and allow myself to make mistakes and learn from them. That's when I actually started learning.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general, an element of this particular subject, or something completely different?

Honestly, my only true passion is teaching. There's nothing that fulfils me more than seeing someone understand their school work.
  • What makes you a Superprof?

I am a dedicated and honest tutor. I strive for excellence in my work.
