My teaching methodology is rooted in Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) and Constructive Scaffolding. This means I view language not as a set of rules to memorize, but as a practical tool for expression and connection. To achieve this, I employ a student-centered approach where the learner does most of the talking and writing during the session. I break down complex literary concepts—such as decoding abstract themes in Creative Nonfiction or structuring an argumentative essay—into manageable, bite-sized components. By building upon what the student already knows, I gradually decrease my guidance as their independence and confidence grow. I also utilize real-time, formative feedback, ensuring errors are corrected gently and viewed as valuable learning milestones.
I believe a structured environment reduces academic anxiety and maximizes focus. A standard 60-minute session follows a highly intentional pedagogical flow:
-The Diagnostic Warm-Up (10 Mins): We begin with a low-stakes conversational exercise, such as a brief impromptu response or a text analysis game. This lowers the student’s affective filter and transitions their brain into "English mode."
- Concept Grounding (20 Mins): I deliver a focused, interactive explanation of the day's core objective (e.g., mastering the five elements of plot in Creative Writing, or handling stage fright in Oral Communication).
-Collaborative & Independent Application (25 Mins): The student immediately applies the theory. We might co-write a thesis statement, or the student may practice delivering a speech chunk while I provide immediate coaching on pacing and tone.
-Reflective Synthesis (5 Mins): We close by highlighting the student's wins for the day, clarifying lingering questions, and setting a clear focus area for the next session.
