I have been tutoring since I was in high school and enjoy making difficult topics feel simple and manageable. My lessons are usually 60 or 90 minutes, depending on the student's needs, level and goals. I tailor each lesson to the individual, focusing on clear explanations, worked examples, exam technique and plenty of practice questions. I also adapt my teaching style depending on how each student learns best, with the aim of building both confidence and strong problem-solving skills.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in Mathematics started at school, where I really enjoyed solving problems and finding different ways to reach a solution. I went on to study Mathematics and Further Mathematics at A-level, achieving A*s in both, before graduating from UCL with a degree in Economics & Statistics. I started tutoring while I was still in school and quickly realised how much I enjoyed helping students understand concepts that initially seemed difficult.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach Mathematics, Statistics and Further Math, with a particular focus on KS3, GCSE and A-level students. I especially enjoy algebra, calculus, trigonometry, statistics and in general problem-solving. I like helping students understand the reasoning behind a method rather than simply memorising formulas. I also enjoy exam technique and challenging questions that require students to think creatively. My goal is to make lessons clear, supportive and focused on each student’s individual targets.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes. I have been fortunate to have teachers during high school who made Mathematics feel interesting and approachable rather than hard and unattainable. The teachers who inspired me most were patient, encouraging and able to explain the same concept in different ways. They showed me that teaching is not just about knowing a subject well, but about understanding how to communicate it effectively. I aspire to become this kind of teacher to students of my own!
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I believe patience, adaptability and clear communication are essential. Every student learns differently, so a good tutor needs to recognise what works best for each individual. I also believe that building confidence is just as important as teaching the content, particularly in Mathematics, where students can sometimes lose confidence after struggling with a few questions. For this reason, I strive to bring such qualities to my lessons because a successful tutor is the one who makes the student feel comfortable, supported and confident in their ability to learn and improve. I aim to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and challenging themselves without fear of getting something wrong. Ultimately, I want my students to leave each lesson not only with a better understanding of the material, but also with greater confidence in their own abilities.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

When I was preparing for Mathematics competitions, I often came across questions where my first few approaches did not work, especially during the actual exams. One lesson that stayed with me was realising that sometimes the best solution comes from stepping back and looking at a problem completely differently. It taught me that getting stuck is a normal and valuable part of learning; something I now encourage my own students to embrace.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One of my biggest challenges was learning to solve unfamiliar problems rather than relying on methods I had already seen. As Mathematics becomes more advanced, there is often no obvious formula or procedure to follow. Learning to break problems down, experiment with different approaches and stay patient helped me overcome this, and it is a mindset I try to pass on to my students.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I particularly enjoy the problem-solving side of Mathematics and the satisfaction of finally understanding a difficult concept. I also genuinely enjoy teaching and seeing students become more confident in their abilities over time. Outside education, I am passionate about basketball, fitness, piano and entrepreneurship, which help me stay disciplined, motivated and continuously challenge myself.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

I bring a strong academic background, years of tutoring experience and, most importantly, a genuine passion for helping students succeed. I achieved A*s in Mathematics and Further Mathematics at A-level, graduated from UCL with a degree in Economics & Statistics, and have been tutoring since high school.

What I value most is making Mathematics feel clear, approachable and even enjoyable. I adapt my lessons to each student, breaking down difficult concepts in a way that makes sense to them and encouraging them to ask questions without hesitation. Rather than simply teaching students how to get the right answer, I focus on helping them understand the reasoning behind it, develop strong problem-solving skills and build the confidence to work independently. My aim is for every student to finish a lesson feeling that Mathematics is something they can genuinely succeed at.
