About Azminnda

♗ FIDE School Instructor (SI)
Tournament director (TD)
In January 2024, I won the FREE CHESS IN WHITTIER
♕ My chess journey began 18 years ago when I first learned to play and joined the high school chess club. This ignited a deep passion for the game, leading me to compete in chess tournaments for the next decade across various levels in my home country of Mexico. During my competitive years, I won numerous titles and medals, proudly representing my city, state, high school, and university in tournaments while traveling across the country. In 2010, I became the first woman to win the annual Masonic Lodge tournament. ♔ With 16 years of teaching experience, I have imparted my knowledge to students of all ages in various schools and events. I am dedicated to continuing my journey in the world of chess, hoping to inspire and guide many more students in discovering the wonders and intricacies of chess.

♔♘♙Welcome to a unique journey through the art and science of chess. ♕I deeply appreciate any opportunities that may arise for me to continue practicing and promoting my passion for chess. I hope to instill in my students a love for the game, respect for their opponents, and humility in both victory and defeat on the chessboard. My approach takes students on an enlightening path through the rich history of chess, where we'll explore and analyze the games of the greatest chess masters of all time. ♖ As a trailblazer in the chess world, I was the first woman to win the Second Force Championship at the VI Chess Tournament of the "Lázaro Cárdenas" Grand Masonic Lodge. I also proudly held the title of tri-champion in the chess championships at the Lasallian Games from 2012 to 2015. Under my mentorship, my students achieved first and second place at the 2015 Cancún State Chess Championship, a testament to our shared dedication and skill. Join me in discovering the depths of chess, where every move tells a story and every game is a lesson in itself.

Find out more about Azminnda

  • When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?

I started playing chess in middle school. Shortly after, I joined my high school chess club, where everything changed. There, I met people who truly loved chess. We built an incredible group of friends who spent hours studying, analyzing games, and competing in tournaments together. Chess became not only a hobby, but a community and a source of motivation that stayed with me throughout the years.
  • Which artists or works affect you the most?

The chess player who has inspired me the most is Alexander Alekhine. His attacking style is extraordinary, creative, dynamic, and fearless. Alekhine was known for sharp tactical play, deep calculation, and the ability to transform even quiet positions into complex attacking masterpieces. Studying his games opened my eyes to the beauty of initiative, imagination, and precision in chess. He is a constant reminder that chess is not only a strategy but also an art.
  • What are the qualities and skills required to succeed in this area?

Discipline is, for me, the most important quality. Studying chess daily is not the same as simply playing games; true improvement requires consistency, structured practice, and the willingness to learn from mistakes. Patience and resilience also play a key role, but discipline is what allows students to grow steadily over time.
  • What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?

Chess is incredibly complex, and learning it well requires active attention. But above all, you must enjoy it. Don’t study chess only to improve or increase your rating; study it because you love it, because you can spend hours solving exercises or playing games without noticing the time. When the passion is real, improvement and rating come naturally.
  • How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?

Chess has been a fundamental part of my life. It has helped me through very difficult moments, giving me something meaningful to focus on. When I sit in front of a chessboard, nothing else matters. It makes me feel calm, in control, and fully present. Chess gives me a sense of clarity and strength unlike anything else.
  • What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?

I founded a chess school dedicated to supporting Mexican girls in chess. Watching them win after so much effort in class fills me with pride. My academy is non-profit; I aim to make chess accessible by keeping costs low and reinvesting everything into scholarships or prizes for our annual tournament. What matters most is seeing the girls grow, gain confidence, and discover their own potential through chess.
  • Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?

Yes, absolutely. One of my students (11 years old) has an extraordinary calculating ability. I’m certain he will become a great chess player someday. His talent pushes me to stay updated, study harder, and improve every day so I can guide him the way he deserves.
  • Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?

I don’t think I have a secret; I think it’s just genuine dedication. I spend a lot of time planning my lessons because I truly care about my students and want them to succeed, whether they play chess casually or aim for high-performance competition.
When they have tournaments, I review their games carefully and look for real examples that will help them understand each concept deeply. I don’t just sit and give generic explanations; I make sure each lesson is meaningful, personal, and useful for their growth.
