About Jeff

Hello! I'm Jeffrey M. Shaw, but I prefer students and their families to call me Jeff. In progressive educational settings, using first names fosters a more egalitarian and collaborative learning environment, breaking down traditional barriers and encouraging mutual respect and openness.

With three graduate degrees and dual certification in English and Social Studies, I bring over two decades of diverse teaching experience to my role as a tutor. My expertise spans English Language Arts, Social Studies, and English as a Foreign Language, with extensive experience in Special Education. I create personalized tutoring plans tailored to each student's unique needs, working closely with them and their families.

My passion for teaching began with a desire to make a meaningful impact on students' lives. I have dedicated my career to helping learners from middle school to college level succeed academically, whether through teaching English as a Foreign Language, special education support, or credit recovery programs.

I have a strong foundation in educational leadership and research-based strategies, having developed and implemented curriculum standards that cater to the diverse learning needs of my students. My experience includes teaching each of the secondary grades and working in various educational settings, where I've served as a testing coordinator, researcher, consultant, and curriculum developer.

Throughout my career, I have collaborated with prestigious institutions such as the University of Maryland and Penn State University on innovative pedagogical strategies. I have led data-driven remediation strategies, supported students in standardized examinations, and enhanced special education services. My commitment to education and continuous improvement drives me to help each student reach their full potential.
