About Stephen

Hello and welcome! I'm a Computer Science and Informatics graduate with a BSc degree from the University of Johannesburg and experience tutoring university students in Computer Science 2A and Informatics 2A. My academic background and tutoring experience have helped me develop a structured, patient and practical approach to teaching technical subjects.

I understand that Computer Science and IT can sometimes feel challenging, especially when you're learning new concepts or trying to apply theory to practical problems. My goal is to make these subjects easier to understand by breaking down complex topics, working through examples together and helping you develop the confidence to solve problems independently.

Whether you're a university student preparing for assessments, a beginner interested in programming, or someone looking to improve your computer skills, I will adapt our lessons to your needs and learning pace. I value punctuality, preparation, clear communication and creating a supportive environment where questions are always welcome.

I'm passionate about technology and enjoy helping others learn, improve and achieve their goals. If you're looking for a friendly, committed and knowledgeable tutor who will take your progress seriously, I would be happy to work with you.

My approach to tutoring is patient, practical and focused on helping students understand concepts rather than simply memorising information. I hold a BSc in Computer Science and Informatics and have university-level tutoring experience at the University of Johannesburg, where I supported students studying Computer Science 2A and Informatics 2A. This experience taught me the importance of explaining difficult concepts clearly, adapting to different learning styles and helping students develop confidence in their abilities.

**My teaching methodology**

I break complex technical topics into smaller, manageable steps and use practical examples, exercises and guided problem-solving to make learning easier. I encourage students to ask questions, explore different approaches and learn from their mistakes in a supportive environment. Rather than simply giving answers, I guide students through the reasoning behind each solution so they can become more independent and confident learners.

**The lessons I offer**

I provide online tutoring in Computer Science, Informatics, programming fundamentals, IT fundamentals, computer literacy and introductory cybersecurity concepts. I can also assist with understanding course material, practising programming logic, debugging code, preparing for tests and exams, and improving general computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

**What to expect from a typical lesson**

We will begin by identifying the topics you find challenging and establishing what you would like to achieve. I will explain the concepts using clear examples, work through practical exercises with you and give you opportunities to practise independently. We will review your progress, address any misunderstandings and identify areas that need further attention. Lessons are adapted to your pace, existing knowledge and learning goals.

**Who my lessons are for**

My lessons are suitable for school learners interested in technology, college and university students studying Computer Science or Informatics, beginners learning programming for the first time, and adults who want to improve their digital and computer skills. Whether you need help understanding a difficult university topic, preparing for an assessment or building a foundation in IT, I aim to make the learning process approachable and rewarding.

**Languages and learning environment**

I can teach in English and use clear, accessible explanations to accommodate students with different levels of technical knowledge. My goal is to create a friendly, respectful learning environment where you feel comfortable asking questions and making progress without feeling intimidated by complicated technical concepts.

I believe that with the right guidance, patience and consistent practice, anyone can improve their understanding of technology. I look forward to helping you strengthen your skills, achieve your academic goals and become more confident in Computer Science and IT!
