About Elmar

Greetings! I am an experienced teacher/tutor in the field of mathematics. I have 15 years of school, college, and private tutoring experience of working with children and adults, in-person and online. I specialize in standardized test preparation (SAT, ACT, GMAT, GRE, and many more).

Most of all in my work, I enjoy helping my students understand difficult mathematical concepts. It is a delight to see students learn and understand math, make progress, and tackle challenging problems on their own.

I started tutoring in mathematics while studying in college. It was then that I realized how much of a difference I was making in my students' understanding of and appreciating math. It soon became a part-time job, and ever since I have totally enjoyed teaching mathematics!

I give my students more than just the content — I teach my students good study habits, organizational skills, and test-taking strategies, all the while making the learning process as interesting and engaging as possible. I also help students with competition-type mathematical problems.

About the lesson

My teaching methodology is all about conceptual understanding (can you explain a msthematical idea in simple words?), not just procedural thinking (rote memorizations and application of formulas).

A typical lesson follows the "I do, We do, You do" approach, but I adjust the organization, format, and pace of my lessons based on my students' needs.

Elmar helped my twin daughters with math during the pandemic while they were doing zoom school. He knew exactly what they needed in terms of 5th grade math. He was proactive in giving them extra work where he felt they needed more in certain topics. They were able to get right into 6th grade math without any problems and were even a bit ahead due to their weekly sessions with Elmar. I highly recommend Elmar as a math tutor!
