My daughter recently completed private SAT/ACT tutoring with Brian Rutledge and Bruce DuBoff at Rutledge Learning Academy. Both gentlemen were phenomenal, extremely knowledgeable in their subject matters and on the tests formats/strategies, and very effective in their teaching methods and demeanors. We highly recommend them!

I rarely write reviews. I spend a lot of time reading reviews, but just don’t write many reviews. I decided to share my experience to help others make a decision on the right SAT prep for their child. My son took the Rutledge Learning Academy’s SAP/ACT prep course during the summer of 2019 (prior to his junior year). I was very pleased with the course and the instructors (one for Math and one for English). The class is done live, online and recorded to review/watch later, if needed. SAT and ACT prep books need to be purchased from Amazon for the course. The instructors also provide a very detailed packet (via email) with lots of useful information.

Doing well on the SAT exam takes strategy (in my opinion). The Rutledge Learning Academy course focuses on SAT test-taking strategies, time management and effective/efficient “guessing” strategies. There is some knowledge-based information, but the course primarily focuses on how to approach the question/problem, solve it as quickly and efficiently as possible, and/or recognize when it’s best to “guess” and move on.

My son also took another local, in-person, one-on-one SAT tutoring class at over twice the cost of the Rutledge Learning Academy in the summer of 2020 (prior to his senior year). That class seemed to focus more heavily on tutoring/teaching the subject matter (i.e., how to solve the problem), not strategies for effective SAT test-taking. I personally felt like I wasted my money with that course, simply because doing well on the SAT is less about knowledge and more about strategy and time management. His SAT score did not improve from when he first time took the SAT in 2019, after completing the RLA course.

As with all classes, you get out what you put in. Attending class provides the tools to do well. To actually do well on the test, you must practice the tools and strategies that are taught. I highly recommend taking the Rutledge Learning Academy class and then applying those strategies by doing practice problems outside of class, taking the practice tests in the books and also taking the Khan Academy Tests online.

Overall, I was very pleased with the Rutledge Learning Academy and felt like I got a lot of value for my money. I plan to have my younger son take Brian’s class next summer (prior to his sophomore year).

Excellent math tutoring and SAT Prep. Highly recommend!

Mr. DuBoff’s SAT prep classes for English was very useful. My son improved his score by 70 points with a final score of 750 in SAT English. Mr. DuBoff helped him understand the various language constructs and how to use it appropriately in the writing section. He also went over the various strategies to analyze the text and answer the questions. He explains everything in detail with examples making it easier to understand. It was a very good course to prepare my son for the SAT.

I expected maybe an 1100 on the SAT, a 1200 if i was super lucky- I got a 1400. All in part to Dr. Rutledge and Mr. DuBoff. Great sociable teachers and good use of SAT prep books, especially practice tests.

Rutledge Learning Academy went above and beyond to help my daughter prepare for her upcoming SAT. They provided a custom tutoring approach that was tailored to my daughter’s needs. Her scores improved dramatically! Very detail-oriented and flexible too. We are so thankful for their help and highly recommend RLA.

We engaged Brian and his team for assistance regarding SAT preparation for our daughter. Our daughter had scored well on her SAT, but not quite high enough to be a candidate for ivy league schools. Brian and his team worked with our daughter to review her previous tests and dive deep into her learning preferences. The professionalism and general ease of conversation led to a wonderful learning experience for our daughter. The time a patience that Brian and his team took with our daughter paid off by boosting each of her scores in Math, English, and Writing into the 90th to 95th percentile for each. Without the care and dedication of Rutledge Learning Academy our daughter would not be as strong of a candidate for her dream schools. On a personal level as a parent, it is wonderful to work with such devoted educators, and see their passion demonstrated not only in their work with the student, but also in the interaction with the parents or care givers of the students. This was by far the BST investment we have made in our daughters preparation for college.

Brian at the Rutledge Learning Academy was just the person I was looking for to tutor my grandson for the math SAT. He knew exactly what areas my grandson needed help and how to work with him to enable him to raise his score. Brian is fun to work with and teaches not only the subject skills but also how to take the test. He really knows what he is doing! When my younger grandson is ready for the SAT’s Brian is the one I will call.

Mr. Rutledge was very flexible and individualized a learning plan. He provided multiple strategies and explanations during the instruction. It was overall an excellent experience.

We used the Rutledge Learning Academy for the SAT/ACT Preparation course for our son this summer and we have used the RLA for Math tutoring for our son and daughter over the past 4 years. We have been very impressed in the ability of Mr. Rutledge to provide clear and focused sessions that introduced foundational mathematical skills that can be applied in the classroom testing or the standardized tests. Mr. Rutledge can provide a complete lesson or just a high level review of any math topic and he will adapt to the level of understanding of your child for each concept. Mr. DuBoff who conducts the Verbal Sessions provides clear examples and techniques to prepare students for the SAT/ACT tests. The cyber class capability has made scheduling sessions very easy and the RLA has always been accommodating with multiple times. I would highly recommend taking advantage of the many services offered by the Rutledge Learning Academy.

The teachers were friendly, understanding, cognizant of time spent and the daily routines of their students. The flexibility of the class and teachers was excellent, allowing students to utilize the recordings of the class for extra help and if class was missed. They were always professional and helpful and value what they are doing as it benefits the students’ success. I highly recommend Rutledge Learning Academy for test preparation and tutoring in all subjects offered. High quality guaranteed.

My 12 year old daughter tutored with RLA weekly thru the second half of the year. For her, it was one on one time and confidence building outside of the classroom...all from the comfort of our home office. Mr. Rutledge has the ability to bring concepts to the levels needed and takes the time to explain and answer questions.
