About Dija

Hello! My name is Dija, and I'm an Honors student currently pursuing my Bachelor's degree after earning my Associate of Science degree. I have four years of experience as a high school English teacher / Middle School Math teacher and continue to work as a private tutor, helping students strengthen their skills in both English and math.

I teach English (reading, writing, grammar, literature, and essay writing), TSI English preparation, SAT Reading & Writing preparation, Arithmetic, Pre-Algebra, and Geometry. Over the years, I've helped students improve their reading comprehension, writing, grammar, and math fundamentals while developing personalized study strategies for TSI and SAT preparation. I've also worked with students who were struggling with low test scores, helping them significantly improve their performance and successfully achieve their TSI and other exam goals through targeted instruction and consistent practice.

My goal is to create a positive and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and building confidence. Every lesson is customized to each student's learning style, academic goals, and pace. I provide clear explanations, guided practice, study strategies, and constructive feedback to make challenging concepts easier to understand.

About the lesson

My Approach as a Tutor

I believe every student learns differently, so I tailor each lesson to fit each student's learning style, goals, and pace. My teaching focuses on building understanding rather than memorization, helping students develop the confidence and critical thinking skills they need to succeed independently. I create a supportive, encouraging environment where questions are always welcome and mistakes are viewed as opportunities to learn.

My Teaching Method & Techniques

I use clear, step-by-step explanations and adapt my instruction to each student's needs. As for test prep, when dealing with students struggling with test scores not only do I address material weakness but also help them with their test taking abilities. That could be test taking anxiety or just struggling with the format of their tests; I have had multiple students in the past struggling with test taking that I helped improve over time. I can guarantee you that you will see a massive improvement with test scores once you work with me. Depending on the subject, lessons may include guided practice, real-world examples, interactive discussions, targeted exercises, and review of previous material to reinforce understanding. I also provide personalized study strategies and constructive feedback to help students continue improving outside of our sessions.

A Typical Lesson

Each lesson begins with a quick review of previous concepts and an assessment of any questions or challenges. We then work through new material together, practicing with examples and exercises until the concepts are clear. Throughout the lesson, I check for understanding, adjust my teaching as needed, and finish with a summary of key points along with recommendations for independent practice.

What Sets Me Apart

I'm an honors student currently pursuing my bachelor's degree and have already earned an Associate of Science degree. Alongside my studies, I've gained experience since the past 4 years teaching Middle School Arithmetic and Pre-Algebra and providing private tutoring in English and math since 7 years now. This combination of classroom teaching and one-on-one tutoring has taught me how to adapt to different learning styles and create lessons that are both effective and engaging. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades but also to build lasting confidence in their abilities.

Back when I met Dija, she was a senior who would tutor kids that couldn't speak English. My two daughters, Elise and Anisa, were actually among her first clients. They were struggling with Geometry and Algebra 1 at the time. My plan was to only enroll Elise, but when she told me she could handle Anisa, who is dyslexic and has struggled with math her whole life, I enrolled both. And it was the best choice! They both went from barely passing to an A in the second semester! One is now in med school, and the other is studying to become an ultrasound tech! I am so proud of my girls, and it might be dramatic to say, but it's really not because those lessons with Dija are what really improved their confidence in math, especially Anisa. I saw the change in her perspective after she got that A. I mean, really. I still recommend Dija to any kids struggling with math anytime I can because she really is that great. You will not regret a minute spent learning with her!

She tutored me in middle school when I was struggling with pre-algebra, and she helped me go from barely understanding the concepts to acing my tests.
